Weber was the first company to give us a backyard BBQ but it was actually Henry Ford that gave us the charcoal briquette. Click here to learn the history.
By the mid-1930s, Henry Ford was marketing “Picnic Kits” containing charcoal and portable grills directly from Ford dealerships, capitalizing on the link between motoring and outdoor adventure that his own Vagabond travels popularized. So thank Ford for being the driving force behind us all owning a BBQ and the charcoal briquette.
